The short answer
- Clothes where fit matters (dresses, jeans, basics): SHEIN — one brand, one size system, reviews that list the buyer's height and weight, and a long return window.
- Everything else — phone and computer accessories, tools, bike and car parts, hobby supplies, anything specific: AliExpress, a marketplace of independent sellers with a far wider catalog, including official stores of brands like Ugreen, Baseus and Xiaomi.
- Home and decor: both sell it — compare the same item on each.
How they are built
AliExpress (Alibaba Group) is an open marketplace: thousands of independent sellers list their products, so the same item often appears at several prices and seller ratings matter. SHEIN mostly sells clothes and accessories under its own label (it also runs a marketplace for other sellers), so a SHEIN listing behaves more like one big store: one size system, one return process.

Sizing: the real difference for clothes
SHEIN uses one size system across its own label, with a size chart on every product and reviews that note the buyer's height, weight and the size they ordered. On AliExpress every seller has its own chart, and many use Asian sizing that runs one or two sizes smaller than EU and US labels. Selection: what each one actually sells
SHEIN is dominated by fashion, with home, beauty and pet sections. AliExpress sells almost everything: phone and computer accessories, smart-home gear, tools, spare parts for bikes, cars and appliances, craft supplies — and official brand stores. If you need a specific part or a specific model, AliExpress is usually the only one of the two that has it.
Which is cheaper?
Neither is always cheaper. Basic clothing costs about the same on both. On AliExpress the same product often comes from several sellers, so comparing listings finds the lowest price. Compare the exact item — same photos, same material, same size chart — and include shipping.
